We have imported ships, ship equipment and ship-building machinery on a large scale from the former Soviet Union and other eastern European countries since CMC was established and made great contributions to the development of shipbuilding industry and marine cause of China. For over 50 years, we imported thousands of ships with a total import sum reaching more than $3 billion.

At present, the company is aiming at the expansive construction of the infrastructure such as ports and rivers of China, actively keeping the advantage position in traditional key part importing, working ship importing (like dredgers), etc, and maintaining the domestic market share of more than 80%.

CMC has made great efforts to open up the international shipping market since 1970s of 20th century. In 1976, CMC took the lead in trying to apply ships to export, having exported a 3,700-ton cargo ship to Malaysia, which started the export of Chinese ships. At the beginning of 1980s, the ships that CMC exported had already entered the markets of developed countries such as West Germany, Sweden, etc. Up until now, CMC has exported more than 340 vessels to all over the world, the total amount being over US$2 billion. The vessels include LPG ships, container ships, multi-purpose cargo ships, passenger ships, bulk ships, freshwater passenger ships, chemical ships, oil tankers, dredgers, icebreakers, ocean drilling platforms, etc.

On the basis of keeping traditional trade way, CMC expands the shipping service range progressively, regarding serving ship owners as the core, making its own shipping business contain such services as shipbuilding, ship fixing, ship disassembly, etc.; meanwhile, CMC intends to expand its business to new high-tech product fields of ocean engineering, high-speed ship, etc.

Since entering 21st century, in line with the market demand, CMC has cooperated with shipping design companies and shipyards, participated in initial-stage developing, designing, revising, building and selling of ships and has progressively formed its own serial products of ships.
